I wouldn’t be so quick to say I love my nose. Yet. I have, however, worked on it and can proudly say I have come to a place where I no longer see a witch when I look in the mirror.
Many have tried to convince me it’s not as big as I think it is, but I think they are just being nice.
So how did I come to like and almost love this nose? I saw it in the people I love. I realized that if my family members who shared this nose were loved and cherished by me, then I, too, could still be loved and cherished in spite of it. More importantly, I never thought they had big, ugly noses, so why would I think mine was?
I used to be so worried about my nose that the slightest comment could send me into a spiral. But today, I have learned to find the cute parts of my nose. Like the little lines that form some sort of Y at the tip.
When I googled the little Y shape I had learned to like, I found plenty of links to plastic surgeons talking about how to correct this problem. So now, if I decide to listen to the internet, the Y shape in my nose needs to be corrected. But I choose to listen to myself, and I think it’s cute.
It’s all about perspective and not letting society or anyone else tell you what should or should not be.
My point is, everything, every single thing, can be a problem, or it can just be. It can be appreciated even.
So today, I like my nose. I like the little Y shape at the end, and I like that I can see my ancestors in it.
